Diaper Cake

I've noticed lately that diaper cakes are a big hit at baby showers. We have had several baby showers to attend lately and each one had a diaper cake:) This one above is one of the cutest I've seen. It wasn't just diapers... It had several extras tucked in it like little bottles of baby lotions, ointments,passys, etc. Sunday we went to a shower for my babysitting mom (friend) "Felicia". Her friend had made her this adorable diaper cake. Baby Hailey is expected to arrive in July!!!

What is VBS?

I got this question earlier today, and I wanted to answer it. Each year we set aside one week for VBS. VBS stands for Vacation Bible School. It is a week pretty much set aside for kids...all kids. It's for kids in our church as well as the kids in our community. It's a week of learning & fun. It's a week, we try to reach as many kids as possible through the word of God (Bible). It is also an opportunity to meet the parents behind these kids in hopes they too will come to know God . We pick a theme to focus on. This years theme is "The Lighthouse" we are trying to show the kids how God is like a lighthouse. So every corner of our church is decorated with the lighthouse theme to add to the excitement. (I'll take pictures tonight to show you).
Each night we teach the kids a lesson through stories, crafts, etc that teaches them about God. After each lesson, we usually do a fun craft to go along with the lesson, and then we fellowship-which is basically meet, talk, and play together. We also feed the kids dinner each night. We use to just feed them snacks at the end of classes,but some parents didn't like the snack idea ,because we have VBS in the evenings and the kids would go home pumped up from their sugar intake, so now we feed them a good meal ,before classes start:)
All Baptist & Methodist churches around have this through out the summer months. So you can go to the other churches and join in on their week of fun & learning too. I'm not sure if other denominations have VBS ,but all Baptist & Methodists around here do.
The kids(and adults) have soooooo much fun ,but most important they learn about God and He is the reason why we do it:)

Sunday's Update

Just wanted to stop in and say hello. It's been a super busy weekend and the past week has been sooooo stressful, but maybe things will be better this week.
Before I go any further with my update, I would like to ask you all to keep my Hubby's grandmother in your prayers. She had a heart attack last night and is in the hospital.
My Nanny is doing soooooo much better. Most likely she will come home tomorrow.
Mom is getting better every day. They done the test today to try to figure out why she had a positive pregnancy tests when she is not pregnant. I'm hoping tomorrow they will be able to tell us more. Please continue to keep her in your prayers.
. Hubby & the boys went to Alabama to see Brent's dad. I stayed home and caught up on some much needed rest. Now, I'm ready for what ever this new weeks brings.
We have VBS all week at our church...which is always so fun:) I'm taking some of my past fosters to it,as well as my own, and I'm really excited about that.
Well, that's it for this update. I hope you all had a good weekend. I'll try to catch up with my emails, comments, and my new award (thank you soooo much Kris!) tomorrow.
However, tomorrow will be busy one for me,because I have all three babies to keep...a 2 month old, 7 month old, and a 1 year old...plus a toddler-Amberly, she is 2...so that should be interesting:) I will have lots of help though:)

Saturday's Update on Mom & Nanny

Just wanted to stop in and update you all on Mom & Nanny. They both are getting better each day. Both are on the floor and out of ICU now...praise God!!!!!!
They still haven't done any further tests on mom for the positive tests, but they plan to do that today. They are about to take her down for an MRI now.
Nanny's had a turn around and the port is working better now. So things are looking up for her:)

I got to spend today with Trinton, Amberly, and Devon. Devon is 2 months now! Trinton, Devon, and Amberly (Trinton & Amberly are two of our past fosters)Their mom still shares them with us & lil Devon too. They now live about 4 minutes from us:) One sweet baby boy

We have babies!!!

We have babies...7 in all!! We just got Jacob a bunny a few weeks ago,but we didn't know she was expecting. Jacob came in and said, "Mom the bunny pulled her hair out", but I didn't really pay that much attention like I should have. About an hour or so later, I went out and sure enough, she had pulled her hair out to make a nest and had seven little babies. I don't know what they will look like because I don't know what the daddy is, but Mama Bunny is solid white with pink eyes:) They look like little pink pigs and they jump around like popcorn:)

So little...ohhhh weeee:)

Update on Mom & Nanny

Friday's update on My Mom & Nanny
Both are doing better today at 1:57 pm. Nanny should be coming out of ICU and on to the floor later today. They've started the test on Mom for the false positives, so we are all interested to know more about that.Thank you again for all your thoughts & prayers.

Just wanted to update you quickly.
I just spoke with Mom and she is doing good. She is still on the pain pump and they've kept her as comfortable as possible. She said it hurts pretty bad when she has to get up, but that is normal,they said each day should get better. As for the false/positive pregnany tests, they will start testing her tomorrow to find out what is going on with that. I'm happy to say it seems that her surgery has been successful.
As for Nanny she had a rough night last night and her body seems to not be agreeing with the port as well as they hoped. So they are watching her closely and if things don't change, they will have to tie the one off in his arm ad put one in her neck instead. I'll keep you posted.

Updates on Mom & Nanny

Sorry about the lack of updates last night. It was almost 9 pm when Nanny finally came out of surgery and then we had to wait until they found a bed in ICU for her. So by the time we got in and talked to the doctor is was very late and hubby was ready to get on the long road home.

As far as Nanny goes, they aren't sure if this surgery was successful. Being in double organ failure puts her against great odds. They put the port in her arm, but the doctor said if the heart is to weak to pump the blood through it, then they will have to go through her neck. He said her heart is just so weak. He said keeping her there for a few days in ICU will give him the opportunity to monitor her heart more closely for any changes. He told us honestly that he really didn't want to do the surgery yesterday,because he knows the risks, but he said what other choice did we have and the answer to that was none. It had to be done.
As far as mom goes, things looked really good when I saw her in ICU last night. It looks like hers will be a success. We will know more once she wakes up and gets to moving around more.
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers:)I just can't thank you enough. I've been blessed with some wonderful prayer buddies and I'm really thankful for that.

Update #2
They took mom into surgery a little after one(my time is bad off on my blog). So far things are going good. We are not sure yet why the pregnancy tests came back positive, and probably won't know anything until we get to talk to the doctor and that will be after her surgery. However, the third test came back that she is not pregnant. All we know is that they came and got her to take her to do some tests, and then now (over an hour later) they come in to tell us she is in surgery. So we know nothing. They actually got us a room for mom & nanny to share this morning ,because they didn't want them having to wait in a waiting room all day... Which I'm really thankful for ,because Nanny was feeling very bad and the waiting rooms were ice cold. The room is huge and they allowed all of us to stay in with them and brought us all reclining chairs, so they've been super kind. So I'm just setting here listening to everyone snore while I'm trying to pass time on here.
As soon as mom comes out from surgery, they are suppose to take Nanny. I guess we will be here all day. Thank you all for your thoughts & prayers.
Also, we did get one more laugh in...
When the nurse came in (before they told us mom was in surgery) he told us that ,"It's a boy!"...lol Then he said, "No, I'm just kidding. I just wanted to tell you she is in surgery now." It was funny watching the doctors act like they had no clue what to do...lol I wonder how many times things like this have happened???? It was funny ,but I sure am glad that my mom is NOT pregnant. I couldn't imagine that:)

It's now 3:32 pm. We are still waiting on mom's surgery to be done. The nurse came in while ago and told us mom is still in the operating room and that things are coming along nicely. Then he said, "He thinks he heard someone say it was twins"...lol... Everybody down here has got a kick out of those positive pregnancy tests...except Mama she didn't think it was to funny.
Anyhow, we are just waiting. I'll keep updating as we go.

It is 4:12 pm and they just came and got Nanny to take her to Pre-OP. We still haven't heard anything about Mom.

Mom's surgery went well. We are waiting for the doctor to come out to give more info on her. Nanny just went in for surgery.

My Family Yearbook Post #18

Assignment for this week: Describe a Typical Summer Day(In our family)
Since school is out, things are not as scheduled as they are during the school year. However, most days are full of chaos and happy(wild) kids. Did I say kids? Our house is a kid magnet, so we always have tons of kids around.
On pretty days, the kids swim,jump on the trampoline, play on the playground, and they run -in-and-out all day... It drives my hubby crazy, but that's what kids do. They snack lots and drink often too. They get dirty & they make messes...lots of those. They keep me on my toes(It's good exercise) and they drive me nuts at times, but I love it!!! On the calmer days, we take field trips. We have tons of those planned for this summer:)
The teens enjoy tanning, hanging out on myspace, taking pictures(they get it from their mama), going off with friends, and having company over....oh and dating too...we've had a lot of that lately. Of course, hubby has his guns ready to chase off the boys and he has Corey, Jon & Jacob to back him:)...lol So BEWARE boys, if you think you are going to try to snatch one of my girls. We DO have guns and we are not afraid to use them...so run while you canAnd me...well...I love the un-planned days of summer:) That just means more time for me to enjoy my hobbies...photography, blogging, gardening, etc

Hmmm...you know me, It would probably be about kids. I love kids!!!!

2) What is one of your guilty pleasures?
Going out to eat and shopping to much:)

3) What are some of the things you do to get yourself out of a bad mood?
I clean house. My house is cleanest when I'm at my worst...It's true, just ask my hubby. If he makes me mad, I can clean this house from top to bottom in just a small amount of time.

4) How long do you think it will take to get the U.S. economy back on track?
I figure about 2-5 years

5) Do you think there is a fine line between creepy and romantic?
Hmmmm..... Creepy seems exact opposite of romantic to me. Creepy is the guy who sent me a myspace friend request the other day and shared his thoughts about me... Of course, I denied him and blocked him... Now that was creepy.
But, when Hubby & I went to the park the other day and he threw a blanket on the ground and we laid there listening to music and watching the stars, now that was simply romantic in my book:)

A Sweet Moment

Meet My Family- 2009

Well, I thought it was time for an updated version of
"Meet My Family"
So Here is my 2009 version:)
1.On the right is me, "Sandy" I'm the lady behind this blog.2. On the Left is the "Hubby" on my blog. His name is Brent. We've been married since 1989 and If I counted that correctly we've been married right at 20 years now. We married VERY young at age 16 & 18,but we've made it! 3. The girl in this picture is one of the most amazing girls you could ever meet. She is the sweetheart of the family. This is my oldest bio daughter "Anna" with her hubby "Corey". They married in June 2008 and are one of the funniest couples ever...they keep me laughing or should I say rolling...lol

Little Baby Wesson should arrive sometime around Feb 1st!!!! Next...
4. This beautiful girl is my second born daughter "Katie".
She is the out spoken "Princess" of the family. She is my girly girl through and through:) And loves photography just like her Mom! Now, Meet The Twins!!!!!!!
5. Meet my baby girl "Ashley". She is the one that is the most like me. She and I are like peanut butter & jelly...we stick together. She is for sure 100% a Mama's girl.

6. Finally a boy! That is what I said the day we were blessed with our first son "Jonathan" but better known on my blog as "Jon". He is Ashley's twin!!!! He is one strong & hard working boy. He is a mini of his Dad.
7. And this is the baby boy of the family "Jacob". He came exactly 8 years after the twins:) He is all boy and always up to something. His siblings say he is spoiled rotten, but I can't imagine why they would say such a thing about such a darling boy *wink*.
8. Next,I would like to introduce you to the oldest of our children(I know you are a bit confused now). But this is actually the oldest kid. We added "Samantha" to our family through foster care in 2003. She is one beautiful & bright girl or should I say woman ,because she is 20 now. People seem to think she favors me more than my own do.


Now, I bet you thought we were done?!? Well, we aren't. Through fostering we have had 16 other children to come in and go from our lives. Each child left their marks behind. Some left roots that run so deep that they are 4-ever connected to us...just like Samantha above.

9. Another of those kids is "Bailey". If you've spent anytime here on my blog, then I know you've seen her name come up over and over. Sometimes we call her Bailey ,but mostly we call her "Bay". She is and will always be "Our Baby Girl". She came into our life through foster care at birth and remained with us for her first year. However, after she went home we remained an active part of her life(I thank her family for that). Only now we are playing the part as "Uncle Brent & Aunt Sandy" in her world and she plays the part of "Sunshine" in ours:) ~Touching the future...one child at a time~ Matthew 18:5 And whoso shall receive one such
little child in my name receiveth me.

With each child that we foster, we do our best to continue having a relationship with them. Some families want that and others just want to move on and forget their past...I can't say I blame them. However, these kids were a part of our family and will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Below are some of my other fosters that are still very much a part of our family... Trinton & Amberly with their sweet baby brother Devon.

Do your children have outside toys????

If your children or grandchildren have outside toys, please take the time to check them before you send your children out to play. You need to check them *EVERYDAY*. These are pictures my Son-In-Law's mom sent me today and it hit home ,because we have this same toy in our yard right now. I've always been good about checking the climbers & playhouses, but I"ve never given much thought to the riding toys. ~~~~~~

Several times I've found black widows on the little tikes & step 2 climbers & playgrounds as well as our wooden gym set. So check them everyday. It is better to be safe then sorrry. Do you like the new look?

I thought it was time for a new look to my blog. Do you like it? I think I really like this layout set. I've also changed my picture to a more recent one of me:) I was kind of tired of looking at the winter one. Just because the picture changed doesn't mean I have...I promise:)

What's on Sandy's Mind?

Thoughts to Ponder

Sometimes life lessons are hard to learn, but you learn as you go and the older that you grow. Here are a few thoughts and some lessons I've learned along the way...
1.Money doesn't grow on trees...boy my mom must have told me that at least a million times as a child. However, I learned that quickly when I moved out on my own at age 16...and no I was not a rebellious teenager,actually my parents will tell you I was exact opposite of that. I was very mature for my age. To this day,I have NEVER asked my parents for anything..not money, not to borrow anything, not to do this or that, not even to babysit my kids, etc ...I'm just not like that. When I decided to step out and be an adult at age sixteen(even though I really wasn't an adult) I acted like one.
2.You can't make people love you...this has been the hardest for me my whole life. It has been a battle of the heart & mind for me and has been the one thing I've spent many a day crying & praying about.
3.You can't buy love.
4.You can't buy "real" happiness.
5.Friends can care just as much or more about you then your family.
6.Friends are precious.

When I had meningitis ,I was overwhelmed by the love I was shown by my community,family, and friends. I was touched by the ones who came and really cared about me and surprised by the ones I thought did, but didn't. I will forever be grateful to the ones who done so much for our family during that difficult time...we couldn't have made it through without them. One day I'll share that story with you.
58. If someone comes to you and confides in you, open your ears and heart, but not your mouth.

1.Color: Red
2.Dessert:Anything with cheesecake
3.Smell: Candles that smell like the bakery
4.Flower: This is hard because I love all flowers.I guess it would be better to ask,"Which flower loves me"? I know that sounds crazy but it seems roses love me best. I can easily root and grow roses and the rest of the flowers aren't so easy for me.
5.Animal:my bunnies
6.Month:June because summer break starts!!!
7.Beverage: Just don't tell my Nanny, but I LOVE DIET Coke. I know it's bad for me, Nanny has already told me that...lol
8.Shoes: I'd rather go bare foot but flip flops are my first choice
9.Snack:lately has been Heath bars
10.Song:OH my, I don't have just one. Some of my favorites are playing right now on my blog.
11.Book: I can honestly say my KJV Bible. Once upon a time I toted it but never read it, but once I picked it up, I fell in love.
12.Fruit: grapes, cantaloupe,or pears
13.Hair style: Usually up in a pony tail or bun, because It is quick ,and it won't get in the babies faces when I hold/burp them. On weekends, I usually wear it down,because it looks better down.
14.Clothing:My capris...I can't help it, I love them:)
15.Store:Walmart...it's everything under one roof...next in line would be Targets,Ross, & Khols...no name a few
16.Hobby:Reading, gardening, blogging, photography, kids(does that count)...I seem to collect them:)
17.Season: Spring
18.Thing to collect: Kids...lol
19.Movies: All the oldies like Forest Gump,Green fried tomatoes,Driving Mrs Daisy, Titanic, Old yeller New-Fireproof,Passion for Christ...plus so so many more
20.Restaurants: Lately is Olive Tree, Zaxbys,Long Horns, O'Charleys,Pennys & Darlene's, Carabbas...just to name a few...I'm not picky:)
