Blaze has a combination of types so his dx is
generalized epilepsy because it effects
many areas of his brain.
Because Blaze doesn't talk we don't know
truly all he experiences but we do know certain behaviors
he has during each stage of a seizure
such as he smacks his lips,
vigorously rubs his nose, Has minimum shaking,
gags, and almost always vomits.
Afterwards, he goes into a deep sleep
for minutes to several hours during
that time he has to be closely monitored
because he can forget to breathe.
When he wakes up, he almost
always has a migraine.
Flashing lights do no tigger Blaze.
However, we noticed more seizures
during holidays (excitement triggered), when getting sick,
when he is very tired ( after busy days), as well as no
known trigger at all.
We went through a period where Blaze was
going to the hospital multiple times a week because of
seizures and during high seizure times he would lose
skills he previously could do like writing his name,
counting, knowing his colors, etc.
Blaze has intractable epilepsy.
He has failed 7 meds so far
but right now he is on a
cocktail of meds and doing VERY well.
Blaze has very little to almost no movement
during seizures. It's very scary because he can
easily go into a life threatening seizure and make
little to no sound at all. He has been hospitalized
several times for status epilepticus. It's very very scary.
As I mentioned Blaze is doing very very very well!
He still has occasional seizures but
he hasn't gone status in over 2 years
so he has made huge improvement.
I'm just amazed at how well he is doing.
