I've had a couple of people ask how Zach is doing. He is doing better! We finally got his results back from the labs and we met with an endocrinologist at Children's Healtcare of Atlanta. Zach has hashimto thyroiditis and hypoglycemia.
Zach has had several episodes where he broke out like pictured. A couple of times it was so bad that he had to go to the ER but even after being treated for an allergic reaction, he didn't clear up. We were sent to Asthma and Allergy of Atlanta for allergy testing. The doctor that we saw at AAA didn't think that it was an allergic reaction but instead felt that we may be dealing with an autoimmune disorder. He sent us for several labs and the labs came back with multiple abnormalities. All of the thyroid tests were abnormal along with the blood sugar tests. He does have some enviro allergies and a seafood allergy but he does not believe that had anything to do with the hives. The doctor at AAA sent us to CHOA to meet with a endocrinologist and a nutritionist. Zach was then diagnosed with Hashimoto Thyroiditis and he is also hypoglycemic. He now has to have his blood sugar checked multiple times a day and I have to make sure that he eats to keep it from dropping out. He will be monitored for growth every 6 months and started on therapy/ meds if his growing slows down.
Of course it broke my heart for him because no parent wants their child to go through hard things but Zach took the news like a little man. He even made jokes about it. He is always so positive and upbeat and I love that about him. He is a go with the flow kind of kid.
We are glad to have answers and now we know what we are dealing with.
Afterwards, we had a mommy and son date! He and I went to Longhorn and he loved having my undivided attention. We had a great time together! I sure do love my boy!
