Christmas

Weary shepherds sat in silence
As they watched their flocks that night.
Not suspecting that God’s timing
For Messiah was just right!
That the special birth of Jesus
Would unfold in yonder stall,
Giving earth a gift so precious
Sent to lift man from the fall.

The shattered sky shone forth in brilliance--
By a star with splendor grand!
And an angel gently whispered
“Fear not, peace is sent to man”.
Then a choir of angels gathered
“Glory unto God above,
Who has sent to earth this blessing
Unto man His peace and love”.
“You will find Him in a manager,
Lying there upon the hay.”
Excitedly, they left all--
With no thought of the sheep that lay
All alone without a shepherd
In the field that Holy Night.
There enveloped by the brilliance
Of that very special light!

And the lowly shepherds found Him
As they came to David’s town.
They in reverence gently bowed down
To this one who wore God’s crown
Did their hearts not sense a mystery
As they viewed the sacred scene?
For this Babe so sweet and gentle
Was God’s Son of high esteem!
