I do NOT want to live here any longer!!!!!

I have decided it is time to move. Ever since I moved here, I've put up with flooding basements, the well go drying, leaking ceilings, and so much more, but this is another story... I had just gone to bed. I had just gotten comfortable when I heard my children screaming. I ran upstairs and just before I got to the top step the kids screamed "Stop". Because on the top step lay a snake. This is not the first time. Nor the second. Not even the third. This is our fourth snake in 3 years in this house.
Most have been small. Now the huge 6+ foot snake from two summers ago that was in our den, came in through our chimney ,because it got our baby chimney sweeps, but the other three got in and we can't figure out how. We don't live in a house with holes. We have checked every corner and crack and we have no idea how they got in. I hate snakes.
As a child I was bitten by a copperhead and it took me several weeks to get over the damage it done to my system. So snakes and me don't get along. So now, I'm wide awake...can't sleep...and I'm looking everywhere I step. It shouldn't be this way. My lil boy says he will never sleep in his room again and we just had gotten him out of our room and into his own bed.
People told us that snakes don't like a bleachy area...wrong this one did.It was on its way down to the bleachy basement from all the flooding that started our day(that's another story I'll share later).
I was also told that snakes hate moth balls ...wrong...we've tried that.
So I say just let them have this house...I don't really like it that good anyway.
Someone else said get a cat. I don't like cats.
A cat is out of the question anyway, because my son is highly allergic to them.

So It's time to start packing...

  5. You are absolutely right. Pack up and move. When my two girls were very little we lived in a coastal town for a couple of years. It was an almost daily chore to sweep lizards out of the house and everytime I went to do laundry I had to double check for copperheads. On more than one occasion I had to chase one off my washing machine, especially in cold weather. They liked the warmth. No fun. Hated it. Couldn't wait until we could move.

Good luck in looking for a new house and God Bless,
    Mimmy

  8. Oh, I am so sorry. I don't blame you. No one wants to be uncomfortable or weary in their own home. Home should be a safe haven. I do pray the Lord would allow you to move on.

  13. My Mom always says the only good snake is a dead one. Well I found a dead one a couple of months or so ago beside our porch. And even it give me the creeps. I know I couldn't sleep in a house that they had been in.

  14. We had a 4' snake come up thru our bathtub drain a month & a half ago. I almost stepped on a huge one last night on the trail walking the dog at my sons soccer practice. I'm with you, tired of the snakes. Single mom here, 3 kids, 4 cats, rabbit and big dog. Still have mice and the snake that got in. If I had an answer I'd gladly share it! Love your blog. Read it everyday.

  15. YIKES!

We're in the country, and I'm thankful that those residents have so far remained outside. I can tolerate them... from a distance, although I have had to repeat, "The black snake is my friend" quite a bit since we've been here. The highlight was when one big one came from the roof and wrapped himself around the hummingbird feeder not nearly enough feet from my head while I washed dishes!

A few mice, 2 flying squirrels, and a bat inside the house wreaked enough havoc on my sanity without adding snakes.

    YIKES.

  17. If I could I would come help you pack. Oh my, I cant even type the word s n a k e . They creep me out!

When my daughter was younger(3-7 years old range), if there was a tv show on about snakes she would come find me and tell me not to watch tv until she said it was safe. LOL She knew how terrified, frightned, creeped out by them I was.

  18. I guess it's time to slow make the progression to pack up. Have you thought about contacting someone who specializes in snake removal to see how they might be coming in?

I can only imagine how you must feel now each and every morning before you step out of bed. Yikes!

I've got three cats, and our house thankfully has been mouse free. We had a problem when they were doing construction on the back of our home and were driving them into our home. Once the cats got them, they were a gonna.
