I think I've shared about everything you could possibly care to know about our family, plus some, here on my blog..But,I got to thinking about one of our family members that I don't talk much about on here. So I figured it was about time that I do.We have a furry family member that is lovingly known as "Little Mama" she is a mixed little dog that adopted us...really. Here is her story and how she came to be a part of our family. (In the picture above ,is my neighbor's little girl Emma. She loves little mama almost as much as we do).
Little Mama Dog came into our lives a little over a year ago.
We had just recently lost our beloved family dog "Sissy" and was trying to get over her. I had decided after loosing Sissy, who was well over 15 years to cancer, that I never wanted to have or love another dog.
Well, that was about to change...
A little stray mixed dog had been put out in our community(we assume). She was a pitiful looking little dog that was very pregnant, and very scared of people. She would come up in the yard, and at first we would tell her to go home,because we thought she belonged to someone else and I for sure did not want her to have puppies in my yard.
Well, a few days later this little dog took up residence in a pile of wood, right next to our neighbor's house, and right next to the main road. We would see the little mama dog(as we called her) as we passed by from time to time ,but at first never gave much thought to it. Until one day she came up in the yard again. This time she wasn't pregnant and was very poor looking. My little boy,who has a HUGE heart for animals threw the little dog a hot dog. She almost chocked she ate it so fast...so we knew it must had been a while since she had food.
Well within a few days, we noticed the wood pile was bursting with life. Several little puppies were coming & going. My neighbor had been asking around to see if the little dog belonged to someone, but no one ever claimed her. So finally She & I agreed,after a couple of the puppies got run over, that the little dog had to be moved so we called the animal control out here. They came and gathered the little babies, but couldn't catch shy little Mama.
Everyday, for days,little Mama would come by the house,and each time Jacob would throw her food. He said, let's keep her Mama and being the mean mama I am, I said, "No!,I don't want anymore dogs". After all we had just lost of family dog and no dog would ever mean that much to me...but that was gonna change.
I finally started helping Jacob feed the little dog and slowly over about a 2 week period I earned her trust enough that she would come up to me,but would not let me lean down to pick her up or pet her. But, she would take food from me without it being tossed.
Once I got her trust, I called the animal control back out. This time they came and she was setting on my front steps. They ran round and round trying to catch her and finally she ran behind me, as if she was hiding. All I could think of was that most likely she would be put to sleep,because no one would want a dog like her. Then I felt so sad and sorry for her. I said, "Never mind, I guess we will just keep her"...and we did.
I made Jacob agree that he would take care of her every day and he does. We took her to the spay/neuter clinic and had her fixed the very next day. We got her shots, etc
And since then that shy little dog that we only seen at a distance is now a bouncy,happy little dog that will almost drive you crazy trying to love you. She won't even hardily let me walk because she is running between my legs trying to get my attention and she LOVES kids best of all.
Little Mama will probably never win an award for most beautiful dog,but she sure had a way of winning our hearts:)
