Today was a BIG day for Blaze! He got to meet his new friend (Deaf Mentor)! We have been on a waiting list for a really long time (so long that I had even forgotten about it). Since signing up we had not heard anything from the Deaf Mentor/GA PINES program. Blaze's SN advocate contacted GA PINES a few weeks ago and talked to them about it. Last week, we got a message from them saying that they had a trained deaf mentor ready for us and that she would be coming out to meet us.
I was a little worried at first, if I really wanted another person in and out of my home, but she was awesome! She came with an interpreter (which was super great too!) and we really liked her! Blaze went right to her and was laying in her lap playing games before she left. As she was leaving, he waved goodbye, signed "thank you" and threw her a kiss. I think she's a keeper!
She will come out a few days each month to play with Blaze, teach us all more ASL, teach Blaze about his culture, link him to activities in our area for deaf/HOH, and give Blaze a deaf (friend) role model to look up to. I think this is going to open a whole new world for Blaze and us! We are really excited for our little boy!
