Just another update...

It's fall here in Howellville and we are all enjoying it. We have been loving the cooler weather (except for this week, it has gotten pretty warm). The kids are all excited about Halloween and dressing up. I'm not sure yet if we are going out trick-or-treating, but we might. It really just depends.

Our little Blazer hasn't felt well today. We had an apt in Atlanta at CHOA yesterday and I think he may have picked up a bug. So we are watching him closely today. That's the one thing I hate and fear the most. These babies have so many appointments at clinics and hospitals and I'm always so scared they are going to catch something....grrrr I try hard to sanitize everything but it's hard when you are constantly in the same places as sick kids.

This month has pretty much been like the last few... with way to much to do and not nearly enough time for all that I need/want to do. I keep reminding myself. "One Day At A Time Sandy". My calendar has been slammed and the rest of the year is quickly filling up. It's not what I had planned. Actually, if I had my way every day would be calm and everything would work out perfectly and I'd never leave home except when I wanted to, but life's not like that. I've learned to expect the unexpected all the time. I almost don't want to blog because all of my posts seem to be about the same things....being busy, appointments, etc. I really don't like that. However, being a mom and foster mom to special needs kids make life like that. So I blog what I do and how I live and for now it's a crowded life in the fast lane.

My Tiny foster girl has had several appointments in Atlanta over the last few weeks. I've taken her to the hospital for a sweat test (3 times), a swallow study, and an upper GI. All of these tests came back good. So it still didn't explain why she constantly coughs, rattles, vomits, or why she stopped breathing at 2 months old. However, last week I took her back to see the lung doctor and this time instead of the lung doctor we saw the nurse practitioner. She was very concerned about how bad Tiny sounded, as was the doctor who performed the swallow test. Both said her lungs sounded wet. The nurse spent a lot of time with me and I told her all that I had been through with this baby since she first came to me. We've seen one specialist after another for the last 7 months. The nurse listened to me more than any of the doctors that I've taken her too. She asked if I minded if she stepped out of the room to discuss my baby with another doctor. She then came back in and told me that she wanted to try some new things since obviously nothing was working. She wanted to up all of her breathing meds (3), add another med, plus a steroid, and 3 weeks of antibiotics. Well guess what?!?! My baby is well!!!!!! Yes, you read that right. She is no longer constantly coughing. The loud breathing and constant rattle is gone. She is not waking me up all night long coughing or waking up covered in vomit every morning. I'm not sure which med did it, but she is soooooooooo much better. We will know if she is 100% better once she comes off the antibiotics. The lung doctor told me yesterday that she can't stay on the antibiotics past 3 weeks (which I knew). If she does well we will not have to do anymore testing at this time. If it starts back up then they may have to do a scope and biopsy of the lungs. I'm believing she is cured and thanking God for it.

Blazer has been very busy too. He went back last week to see his audiologist and his opthomologist. He got his new glasses although I can not keep them on him for nothing. He hates them. I don't know if it is sensory related or what but he goes nuts when I put them on him.
At the audiologist, they took new molds of his ears and they are making him new hearing aids. She wants him to start back wearing the hearing aids . They do not help him hear at all because he is profoundly deaf in both ears. However, She wants him to wear them because even though he can't hear the aids stimulate the nerves to keep them alive. The aids bug him just like his glasses do. I told her we will try and she said that's all that she can ask of us.

Tomorrow Blazer starts back up at the therapy farm. He has missed several weeks due to all of these appointments, so it will be good getting him back in. Then after the farm, he goes back to the neurologist. Then next week he goes back to the Marcus and then to the GI. So he is one very busy kid. I don't know how we are going to handle all of these appointments once he starts preK in the spring, if he still has so many appointments. Although it may not sound like it, but Blaze really is doing very, very, very well. Like the doctor said at CHOA, "He looks much better in person than he does on paper". We are thankful for that.

Well I gotta run. I hope you have a great Halloween!
